This PD opportunity offers middle and high school educators structured, in-depth training to facilitate a games-focused hackathon in their school during CSEdWeek (December 4-10, 2017). The CS4All Hack League will challenge students to design and code digital games that address real-world topics including News Literacy, Wildlife Conservation, Kindness & Empathy, and Connected Cities.

Up to 100 middle and high schools from across NYC will be invited to participate in this bracketed game design competition; winning teams at the school- and borough-level will advance to a final, citywide competition facilitated by the not-for-profit, Games for Change.

G4C CS4All Hack League FAQ

Selected educators will attend a one-day training on how to facilitate a competitive, games-focused hackathon within their schools. The Hack League competition will kick off in 100 middle and high schools in all five NYC boroughs during CSEdWeek (December 4-10, 2017). Round 2 and 3 of the Hack League will take place in early 2018.

Hours of classroom implementation expected of teacher:

  • 6-12 to plan and facilitate 1-day hackathon within school during CSEdWeek;
  • 3+ hours of guidance and mentorship to your school’s winning team into the next ‘brackets’ of the Hack League competition.
